Associate Professor / Researcher at the CESI LINEACT UR 7527 laboratory, Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray. Head of the Computer Science and Digital Science programmes at CESI.
My research lies at the intersection of AI in Education (AIED) and Cognitive Network Science (CNS). Initially focused on indoor localisation and action recognition, it now centres on the pedagogical alignment of generative AI.
The core problem I study is pedagogical sycophancy: the structural misalignment between large language models optimised for a user’s immediate preference and the conditions that actually produce durable learning (Biggs’ constructive alignment, desirable difficulties, Kapur’s productive failure). This work articulates several complementary contributions: a normative framework combining constructive alignment with the capability approach, operationalised through the Biggs Alignment Index (BAI); a measurement instrument, APed, which quantifies the pedagogical alignment of AI-generated tutoring interactions; and further ongoing work on correcting this alignment in LLM-based pedagogical agents.
I am scientific coordinator of the CAIRE initiative (ANR-23-CMAS-0031, France 2030).
